The Pequea Valley School District is made up of Leacock, Paradise and Salisbury townships which are located in the beautiful, eastern most part of Lancaster County. Salisbury Township borders Chester County. Some popular towns and villages in Leacock Township are Bird in Hand, Gordonville, Intercourse, Irishtown and Weavertown. Paradise Township includes Bellemont, Iva, Leaman Place, and Paradise; and Cambridge, Mountain Top, South Hermitage, Cains, Mount Airy, Springville, Salisbury Heights, White Horse, Buena Vista, Limeville, Buyerstown, New Milltown and Spring Garden are in Salisbury Township.
This area features quaint towns located along a two-lane country roads that winds through the Amish farmland of Lancaster County’s picturesque Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Route 340, or Old Philadelphia Pike as it‘s also called, is an AAA Cultural Scenic Byway. Here it’s common to see Amish families clip-clopping along in horse-drawn buggies, fields plowed and harvested by teams of horses, laundry hung on long lines, and one-room schoolhouses. There are lots of Amish roadside stands and local crafts, including hundreds of handmade quilts, that reveal an artistry passed down for generations. Popular tourist areas include the village of Bird In Hand which has fantastic restaurants and bakeries, a farmer’s market and many other family and cultural attractions.
