Six Stay-cation Ideas

The weather here in Lancaster is certainly screaming summer, summer, summer! We have seen many hot days, however summer is over half-way through! If you’re looking for ways to pack some more enjoyment into your last few weeks of summer, without packing up and heading out of town, we’ve got a few fun summer stay-cation ideas for you.

Camp out in your backyard.

Pitch a tent, grab the sleeping bags, and enjoy some time in your own backyard. Your kids will love the mini-adventure! If you have a fire pit, fire it up and roast some hot dogs or make some s’mores.

Family carnival.

Create your own family carnival right in your own backyard!  Invite friends and family over and set up fun games like cornhole, sack races, ring toss, balloon darts and more. Enjoy carnival treats like french fries, funnel cake, and cotton candy.

Water play.

Beat the heat and turn your backyard into your own water-park. Set up a sprinkler, fill a kiddie pool, water table or fill large plastic totes and splash around! Places like Walmart, Five Below, and the Dollar Tree sell all kinds of water balls, squirters, and more – inexpensive cost with maximum fun!

Plan a treasure hunt or scavenger hunt.

Create a quick list of everyday and unique items that your kids can hunt for throughout the house or neighborhood. Then watch them try to find them all!

Get outdoors.

Here in Lancaster, we’re lucky to find ourselves close to many areas set up for hikes or nature walks. Enjoy trails through Overlook Park, Landis Woods, Farmingdale Trail, and many more.

Build a fort.

Gather all of your cardboard boxes, pillows, and blankets and build the biggest for you can imagine! Spend the day playing, snacking, and napping inside!

Have more stay-cation ideas?? We’d love to hear them!
