Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 1 marks a time-honored Pennsylvania Dutch tradition – Fasnacht Day! Fasnacht Day precedes Ash Wednesday each year, and is a day celebrated in Lancaster County by enjoying fasnachts. Fasnachts are a heavy dough often fried in lard, similar to a donut. Varieties abound with everyone having their own personal preference – hole, no-hole, plain, powdered sugar coated, and more!
If you don’t have your treats for tomorrow locked down, here’s a few places you can get them:
Oregon Dairy – drive-through tent in the store parking lot at 2900 Oregon Pike, Lititz.
Bird in Hand Bakery – drive-through tents at 2715 Old Philadelphia Pike in Bird in Hand and 1530 Oregon Pike in Manheim Township.
Achenbachs – located at 375 E. Main Street, Leola.
Holy Spirit Lutheran – located at 3131 Columbia Ave, Lancaster, will have a drive-through tent set up.
Legend has it, if you enjoy a fasnacht on Fasnacht’s Day, you’ll have good luck in the coming year!
